i love sitti. i love her music. i love bossa nova.

i have to admit that when i first heard her name, i thought she was a Muslim. i later assumed that she's not because it's not her real name anyway.

at any rate, i found these interesting comments on sitti's "mas que nada" video on you tube. and i couldn't resist posting my own point of view.

Aidanalan said: Are you sure she's Maranao? I think I read one of her interviews in the entertainment column of the Philippine Star, she mentioned she was Tausug. And why should we be proud of her? She's not even proud of us! Plus, she's not even a practicing Muslim!
I'm just saying that she's using it to help boost her fan base which leads to more sales. If she's really a Maranao or Tausug, she should act like one. She shouldn't be in those sexy clothes in public. I mean, it's good that a Muslim (even a supposedly half-Muslim like Sitti) is breaking into mainstream entertainment, but if she wants to play that Maranao/Tausug part, she should do it the right way.

Saiaopinoi: re all Maranao or Tausug Muslims? Your remarks are tearing people apart. You are so regionalistic and selfish. That does not help in anyway tp ur betterment as an individual.

Alia: there's no such thing as "half-muslim." one's either a "muslim" or a "non-muslim." one can't believe partially in islam and claim herself as "half-muslim."

besides, tribe is different from religion. to consider oneself as a maranao or tausug has its basis on one's family roots, where such person originated (Lanao or Sulu). it doesn't follow, though that such person is a Muslim. it depends on his/her beliefs. thus, sitti may claim that she has Maranao/Tausug roots in her blood, if such is the fact, regardless of her religion. it's a different thing if she claims herself as a "muslim" but her actions show otherwise.

please take note of the distinctions between religion and tribe so we can all avoid the misconceptions regarding our muslim brothers and sisters. thank you.
